4. There have been two serious challenges to El Duque’s record for career winning percentage. Enjoying a far longer career, Santiago’s Norge Luis Vera retired in 2012 after seventeen seasons with a .721 mark (176–68); given the length of Vera’s career, his ledger might appear a bit more impressive. Still-active Sancti Spíritus right-hander Ismel Jiménez briefly overcame El Duque a few seasons back but has now slipped to third place on the career list at 113–47 (.706) across eleven seasons.
